What label material survives a workshop?
Laminated polyester or aluminum-faced labels handle oil and abrasion; keep the code at least 2 cm square with a quiet border and it scans through most wear.
We do not have asset software yet - what do the labels point to?
Point each label at whatever you already keep, such as a shared drive folder, a per-asset document, or a row in a spreadsheet with a link. That is enough to get the manual and the service history onto the phone of whoever is standing at the machine. Because the labels are dynamic codes, moving to real asset software later means repointing the codes rather than relabelling the building.
Can a technician log a service visit by scanning the label?
Only through a tool you already use. QRmkr generates the code and controls its destination, but it does not host forms or logs, so the honest pattern is to point the label at your existing form, ticketing tool or maintenance system and let the scan be the shortcut into it. The gain is that nobody has to find the right asset record; the label opens the right one.
